A former suburban teacher is sentenced to three years in prison for the sexual abuse of a student but he faces even more time if convicted in two other cases.

Robert Steck, 41, of the 900 block of Shady Lane, Aurora, was convicted last December of six counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, one count of indecent solicitation of a child and four counts of sexual exploitation of a child, according to the Kane County State's Attorney's office.

The abuse occurred in 2005 and 2006 while Steck was a teacher at Cowherd Middle School and the victim was a 13-year-old student.

Steck has yet to go to trial on two other charges of criminal sexual abuse from 2007. Prosecutors say the two victims in those cases were children under the age of 13 who lived in Steck's neighborhood.

Those alleged crimes occurred in 2007. He's in back in court on those cases April 8.
