Former daytime talk show host (and current game show host) Meredith Vieira is no stranger to soaps. The talented Vieira guested on ABC’s General Hospital almost a decade ago as ‘Bree Flanders.’
Long time fans remember the colorful character as a ‘madam’ in a storyline involving Luke Spencer (Tony Geary).
This time around Vieira’s character has ties to Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring). In fact, Bree has the impressive position as Vice President of Marketing for Lucy’s cosmetics company ‘Coe Coe Cosmetics.’
Vieira spoke exclusively to TV Guide journalist Michael Logan about her return to ‘General Hospital.’ Vieira confirmed that ‘One Life to Live’ fans will no doubt appreciate a familiar name from Bree’s past.
On her character’s surprising return to the soap, Vieira said,
‘…maybe it's not as juicy to be in cosmetics but it would be so pathetic if Bree was still in the madam business 10 years later, sitting there with her scotch and her cigarettes. It would have been creepy. I'm just so surprised they're bringing her back at all. I just assumed something bad had happened to her. Or that she was like that famous kid in soaps who went upstairs to get his skis and never came back.’
On the surprising ‘One Life to Live’ connection Bree has Vieira said,
‘… before Bree became a madam in her own right she used to work for a madam named Renee at a whorehouse in Reno, Nevada, but nobody told me Renee was a character the audience would know! That's so cool!’
Of course, fans know that Renee is the one and only Renee Divine Buchanan (Patricia Elliott) of Llanview PA.
