Former SU quarterback Ryan Nassib earns Big East Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Ryan Nassib, record setting former quarterback for Syracuse University, has been named as the Big East Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He also was named Syracuse’s Institutional Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Each award gives him $2,000 scholarships that can be used towards graduate or professional studies. Chosen by the conference’s Academic Affairs Committee; the awards are based on academic credentials and athletic performance. American Eagle Outfitters sponsors the award.

Nassib excelled across the board as a member of the football team, as a student, and in the community. Here are his accomplishments as listed by Syracuse University.

“After rewriting the record book this season, Nassib was named to the Pro Football Weekly's All-America Team and to the All-BIG EAST Second Team. Nassib holds every major career and single-season passing record (except career TD passes) in SU history, including most attempts (1,312), completions (791) and yards (9,190). He also has 3,891 yards of total offense in 2012, another Orange season record. Nassib ranks first in completions and pass attempts in the BIG EAST career record book. He was also named captain of the 2012 BIG EAST and New Era Pinstripe Bowl Champions.

For someone who has etched his name in multiple places in the SU football record book, it is an outstanding feat that Nassib has excelled in the class room, as well. Nassib graduated in May from the Martin J. Whitman School of Management in May with a dual undergraduate degree in finance and managerial accounting and is currently pursuing his Master's degree in accounting. A 2010 ESPN Academic All-District Team selection, Nassib is also a four-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team honoree and has been on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll and the Whitman School of Management Dean's List every year.” - Syracuse University

Quite a special young man with a very bright future in anything life will offer him as he moves forward into the world. In addition to all of the listed accolades and accomplishments, he also volunteers with time spent at the Onondaga County Justice Center, the Salvation Army, and the Ida Benderson Senior Center. He has also been on the SU Football Team Leadership Council since 2009.

Nassib is also a 2012 National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete and just the second Syracuse footballer to earn the Big East award. (Kyle Johnson, 2001)
