Reverend Mark Holt, now a committed Christian, was once deeply involved in drugs, alcohol, and demons. With the help of his faith, Reverend Holt turned his life around after a nasty divorce, followed by a near fatal heart attack in 2008. Mark attended Catholic University as an undergrad and, after renouncing his life as a Satanist, returned to school and received his graduate degree in Theology from the University of Middle Tennessee, embarking on a career as a non-denominational Christian pastor. Much of his work involves counseling and helping alcoholics and drug addicts many of whom, he says, are suffering demonic oppression or even possession.
Reverend Holt lists signs of possessions and activities that attract demonic interest on his website. When asked about the name, Alpha Coven, he explained that the "Alpha" - the first letter of the Greek alphabet - is an appellation of Christ or of God in the Book of Revelation, while the "coven" refers to the sacred compact between God and mankind.
Mark became acquainted with the dark side of the paranormal after immersing himself in the teachings of the Thelemic Order of the Golden Dawn, which was founded by Aleister Crowley, the early 20th century adept also known as the "Great Beast." It's important to note that the present day Thelemic Order is not associated with or overseen by the Golden Dawn in any way, and that Crowley himself was banned from the Golden Dawn after he began making outrageous claims and exhibiting some very bizarre behavior. Crowley's admirers in the Thelemic Order, like the Master himself, generally follow a program of self initiation on what is known as the "Left Hand Path," which involves dark magic and summoning demons.
Minister confirms that demons exist
Reverend Holt warns anyone contemplating such a path to reconsider. "I've seen 'real' demons and, believe me, getting involved with them is never worth it, no matter what they promise. First of all, they lie so they're not going to live up to their end of the bargain. Plus, they will destroy not only your life, but the lives of your family, including your children. Don't make the same mistakes I did."
Reverend Holt provided an audio example of what he says is demonic laughter. He and his son were the only people in the room at the time; however, the recorder caught these sounds.
Reverend Holt says that his work with alcoholics and drug addicts is part of the lifelong penance he is paying to God to atone for his sins. But he pays it willingly as his passion in life is to help people make the right choices in life, rather than falling prey to the false promises of the dark side. Like many ministers/demonologists, Reverend Holt agrees that cases of oppression/possession have increased tremendously in recent years, due partly to the dramatic rise in paranormal TV shows and movies. "Getting involved in the paranormal can be very dangerous to the investigators," according to Reverend Holt. "I know of a promising student at Radford University who was diagnosed as schizophrenic after he became obsessed with the Ouija board. Another investigator that I have personal knowledge of had a demon follow her home from a haunted location and she eventually committed suicide. Coincidence? I don't think so."
