Lydia McLaughlin came in to "The Real Housewives of Orange County" as a friend of Alexis Bellino's and she left the show still Alexis' friend. Unlike some other housewives, Lydia and Alexis didn't let the reality show destroy their friendship. On Monday, May 12, the two former housewives even had dinner together and celebrated their true friendship.
Alexis posted an Instagram photo of them together. "On screen, off screen, this friendship never waivers. Love you girl," she captioned the photo, including the hashtag "#truefriends." Both opted for slick-straight hair and black dresses for their night out on the town. While Lydia kept her makeup natural, Alexis went for stronger eye makeup and lipstick.
Wisely, Lydia, who is pregnant with her third child, kept away from the alcohol. While Alexis drank a cocktail, specifically a martini, Lydia had a fruity mocktail, a cocktail without any alcohol. Lydia also shared with her Instagram followers the same photo of her and Alexis, with the hashtags "#TrueFriends" and "#HousewivesSurviors."
Lydia McLaughlin joined "The Real Housewives of Orange County" for season eight. Coming in as Alexis' friend, the other housewives, especially Tamra Barney, were immediately wary of her. However, she proved during the season that she could be friendly to the other housewives without turning her back on Alexis. Much to everyone's surprise, Lydia announced after the season that despite given the opportunity, she would not be returning to the show.
Of her decision, Lydia explained that she always knew that she didn't want to make a career out of being a housewife and wanted to concentrate on other things, including possibly her own reality show centered around her Beverly Hills Lifestyle magazine. She later explained that she really left the show because she wanted to have a baby and didn't want that to be her storyline for the next season.
As for Alexis Bellino, she was on the show for four seasons, from season five through season eight. She, along with one-time friend Gretchen Rossi, was reportedly fired from the show because producers felt that their storylines had become stale.
