Despite not having a head coach in place, the Cardinals are still looking to add possible assistants to the coaching staff. The team interviewed long time Eagles coach Juan Castillo on Tuesday, according to CBS NFL insider Jason La Canfora.
Castillo was the Eagles offensive line coach under Andy Reid from 1998-2010. Over that stretch, Castillo was widely considered by many in the league to be the best o-line coach in the game. Despite having no pro experience on the defensive side of the ball, Reid hired Castillo to be his defensive coordinator in 2011, but was fired in October 2012.
With no head coach in place at the moment, it is certainly strange that the Cardinals front office would be interviewing an assistant coach to add to the staff. It could mean that a head coach is already in place and Michael Bidwill and company are waiting to make an announcement and looking to put a staff together in the process.
Just talking to Castillo shows that this franchise is serious about getting back to their winning ways of a few seasons ago. Castillo is a brilliant offensive line coach and he could come in right away and help a unit that struggled mightily at times this past season.
