Former Paulding County GOP Chairman recognized in the Georgia State House

In a presentation released today by State Republican Rep. Micah Gravley of Paulding County, Rocky Swann, a retired educator of 32 years, a Vietnam veteran, and former Chairman of the Paulding County Republican Party was recognized on the floor of the Georgia State House of Representatives for his community, district service and his years as an educator.

Republican Rep. Micah Gravley (GA-67) said in his speech on the State House floor, “It’s always a pleasure to have constituents up who have contributed to your community, to your district, and to your school system and today, we are honored in our Paulding delegation to have a lifelong educator, an educator for 32 years in our school system who recently retired… Mr. Rocky Swann. Would you all give him a warm welcome for his service to our community and to education.”

House Republican Representative Paulette Braddock and Democratic Representative Kimberley Alexander stood next to Gravley in honoring Mr. Swann.

“What a surprise when, on the day I went to shadow my state representative, he honored me from the well and I received a standing ovation from the House of Representatives for my years of service in teaching,” Mr. Swann told the Paulding County Republican Examiner.

“It was very much appreciated and many thanks to State Representatives Micah Gravley, Paulette Braddock, Howard Maxwell, and Kimberley Alexander, all of whom represent some portion of Paulding County.”

Mr. Rocky Swann is a graduate of Mercer University, the University of West Georgia, and is a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran who served in the E Company (Wildcat Recon), second Battalion with the 173rd Airborne Brigade.

His educator years began in 1976 with Taylor High School in Butler, Georgia. He moved to the Paulding County area and began teaching at North Cobb High School in Kennesaw and at R.L. Osbourne High School in Marietta.

He retired in 2008 after 32 years.

Mr. Swann is also a former Paulding County Republican Party chairman from 2008 to 2010 and on Saturday, March 9, 2013, became an elected officer again of the Paulding GOP as the party’s 1st Vice Chairman.
