On the day that there's another mass exodus from Patch, three former Studio City Patch writers have all debuted in Ventura Boulevard Magazine in the February 2014 issue.
Wednesday was the day that Matt Sanderson was booted from Studio City Patch, along with Craig Clough who took over the Sherman Oaks and a dozen or so other Patches. They didn't have the going-away month that I was given when I was told of my pending departure between September and October.
The good news is that I was able to do one of the most comprehensive stories of how a Los Angeles community is dealing with the local proliferation of medical marijuana businesses, in a story called "Green Rush" in the Ventura Blvd. Magazine: /www.ourventurablvd.com/February-March-2014/Green-Rush/
It's a story that tells how the Studio City Neighborhood Council, under the leadership of president John Walker and vice president Lisa Sarkin (also the Land Use chair), have worked together with (rather than fight) the businesses that sell marijuana in the neighborhood and limit their numbers in the community.
There's a dramatic quote that I coined that has been quoted already in the past few months:
"NESTLED AGAINST THE MILLION-DOLLAR HILLSIDE HOMES, POSH BOUTIQUES AND PRICEY SUSHI EATERIES, THERE ARE MORE MARIJUANA DISTRIBUTORS IN STUDIO CITY THAN MCDONALDS, 7-ELEVENS AND STARBUCKS COMBINED.”
Check out the community story and the profile on Sam Humeid of Perennial Holistic Wellness Center.
Also, ironically in the world of uncanny coincidences, on the day that this February issue comes out, and Patch editors disappear unceremoniously, two other prominent Patch writers, Susan McMartin and Karen Young also appear on the site and in the new issue.
Karen, who wrote three different columns for me at Patch, and wrote for all the Valley Patches as well as her MyDailyFind online column, has a new column called The Sauce that you can subscribe to about all the latest on food, dining and shops along Ventura Boulevard (there is no one more connected than Karen!)
Then, Susan McMartin, whom I dubbed as "Studio City Mom" is also debuting in the magazine with a wonderful column "My First Love" (CLICK HERE)
You never forget your first love. When I’ve asked people about their first love, no one ever responds with, “I don’t remember.”
I believe that the person who immediately comes to mind when asked this question must be it.
The person whose kiss you remember above all others. Whose voice can still be heard in your head. Whose well-being still matters.
First love. (CLICK FOR THE REST)
