David Cassidy catapulted to fame as Keith Partridge on the 70s hit, "Partridge Family." Now he's in another spotlight. The former teen idol faces his third drunk driving charge following a traffic stop Friday night.

CNN reports that Cassidy was arrested after he was stopped by a California Highway Patrol officer for allegedly making an illegal turn in Los Angeles.

According to a statement released by the CHP, Cassidy blew .19% (twice the legal level) on an alcohol test administered by the arresting officer. The actor was reportedly booked in a Los Angeles jail on a driving under the influence of alcohol charge early Saturday and freed on $15,000 bond several hours later.

Cassidy, who lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was arrested on a drunken driving charge in New York last August. He faced a similar charge following another arrest in Florida in late 2010.

Drunken driving remains a major US health concern. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 30 people die every day in crashes that involve alcohol-impaired driving.

To do your part to cut down on drunk driving, the CDC recommends the following:

  • Prior to any drinking, designate a non-drinking driver when with a group.
  • Don’t let your friends drive impaired. Take their keys away.
  • If you have been drinking, get a ride home or call a taxi.
  • If you’re hosting a party where alcohol will be served, remind your guests to plan ahead and designate their sober driver; offer alcohol-free beverages; and make sure all guests leave with a sober driver.

If you have multiple drunken driving charges, or maybe just one, you may want to evaluate your drinking habits. Check out this self-test made available through the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence.
