As the motorcade carrying US Vice President Joe Biden, white house personnel, secret service agents and former Olympic champions headed for the Sunday hockey game and following figure skating competition, a small three car collision interrupted the afternoon events for the party. CTV BC explains further that:

“The crash occurred shortly after 11:30 a.m. when the last vehicle of the motorcade rear-ended the vehicle before it, which then crashed into the next vehicle in the line.”

With reporters immediately grabbing hold of this story, many sources have since released their issue of the unfolding events and all found generally the same details. However, an early morning report found in the Vancouver Sun, online version, has summarized:

“Joe Biden's vehicle was not involved in the crash and he arrived at his destination safely, RCMP officials said in a news release.

U.S. media identified the injured women as Peggy Fleming, an ice skating gold medallist in 1968, and Vonetta Flowers, who won a gold medal in bobsledding in 2002.

Both were taken to hospital and released later on Sunday, according to a statement given to U.S. media.”

At present, the accident was said to have occurred because of a slippery section on the road. Further reports are planned to be released after Vancouver RCMP conduct a full investigation into the cause of the Sunday morning accident. Both injured Olympians are said to be doing fine.
