Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!
Publishers Lunch recently announced that former Los Angeles County prosecutor Marcia Clark, who headed the state’s failed case against O.J. Simpson, has signed a two-book deal with Little, Brown. Her debut crime thriller, tentatively titled Guilt By Association, is scheduled for release in the spring of 2011. Clark has hinted at her literary ambitions throughout the past several years, but this is the first confirmed report.
Clark, with Theresa Carpenter, is also author of the trial memoir Without A Doubt, a #1 bestseller in 1997. She was reportedly paid a $4.2 million advance for the book. In it, she made mention of her pension for gritty detective novels. Coincidentally, her former co-counsel Christopher Darden authored a series of legal thrillers with Dick Lochte in the late ‘90s and early ‘00s.
Since the trial ended, Marcia Clark has maintained an active media presence, appearing on a variety of television shows (such as “Power of Attorney”) and hosting her own radio program. Currently, she is a special correspondent for “Entertainment Tonight” and contributes a periodic column to The Daily Beast.
