Former New Orleans Saint Darren Sharper arrested on rape charges

Darren Sharper was one of the most popular players in New Orleans Saints history, and now he is in a good bit of trouble. According to TMZ on Jan. 18, 2014, the former NFL defensive back has been arrested on rape charges out in Los Angeles.

The 38-year-old Sharper was arrested on Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, due to alleged sexual assaults that happened over the past two years. The first was in Oct. of 2013 and the second just this month.

Sharper was booked into the L.A. county jail and then released on $200,000 bail. The county has set a court date for Feb. 14, 2014.

At this time, the names of the accusers and alleged victim or victims have not been released.

Sharper was a key part of the 2010 Super Bowl winning team for the New Orleans Saints.

Darren Sharper is a five-time Pro Bowler from his time in the league. He played for the Saints, Green Bay Packers, and Minnesota Vikings during his 13 years in the the league and he was also a six-time NFL All-Pro.

Presently, Sharper is an analyst for the NFL Network.
