Former Miss USA arrested on drunk driving charge

Rima Fakih made headlines and invited controversy last year when she was crowned as the first Michigander, and the first Muslim winner, in Miss USA pageant history.

Fakih has recently made the news for being charged and arrested for driving under the influence in Highland Park, Michigan.  Her lawyer Doraid Elder said Sunday that she is "very saddened and very apologetic for the situation that she's in right now."

The incident appears to be one of many blemishes in Fakih's fairly short public life. A few months ago when it was time for her to relinquish her crown to Miss USA 2011, Fakih defined her reign as 'bumpy' citing that she had upset both non-Muslims and Muslims with her unpopular beliefs on the Park 51 mosque and participation in topless body painting.

Fakih's clothing choices, pole dancing, and mosque preferences aside, it would appear that all parties can agree that driving while intoxicated is an extremely irresponsible and an incredibly dangerous thing to do for anyone unfortunate enough to be involved.

Thus far there have been no reports of any victims or injuries and police are offering no details on Fakih's arrest.
