The Miami Dolphins reportedly talked to David Garrard before the start of the regular season and had considered replacing Chad Henne last month.
According to a report by ESPN, Garrard says the Dolphins didn’t have the guts to commit to him and provide him with a deal which would have guaranteed that he’d at least play for the entire season.
After Henne went down against the Chargers last Sunday with a shoulder injury Miami made a move to sign Garrard but the deal fell through.
A report by Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald painted Garrard as someone lacking the desire to play this season.
The report cited an unnamed source from the Dolphins organization which claimed the reason a deal with Garrard wasn’t reached was that he simply didn’t have the urge to play.
But Garrard fired back claiming he didn’t want to join the Dolphins due to their lack of commitment to him and quite frankly because they’re winless.
The 33-year-old doesn’t see the point in risking injury for an 0-4 team which refuses to guarantee him at least a one-year deal worth $1 million.
Miami instead signed former Giants quarterback Sage Rosenfels just days after announcing Matt Moore would be the starter.
Henne was placed on injured reserve and is done for the year as he opted for shoulder surgery.
The Dolphins will next face the Jets on Monday October 17th.
