According to the Spengler Cup website, former Calgary Flame center Matthew Lombardi registered a four point game on Monday as Geneve-Servette HC beat Team Canada 6-5 in the semi-finals of the 2013 Spengler Cup.
Lombardi, a native of Montreal, Quebec, notched two goals and two assists. His first goal came shorthanded at 2:46 of the first period to put Geneve-Servette up 1-0. Then he scored again at 3:05 of the third period to put Geneve-Servette up 5-2.
With the win, Geneve-Servette will now play CSKA Moscow in the championship final from Davos, Switzerland, which will be scheduled at 4:00 a.m. Mountain time.
In order for Lombardi to be a difference maker in the championship final on New Year's Eve day, he will need to do a better job in the faceoff circle. In Monday's game, he only won three of a possible 14 faceoffs. That is a percentage of only 17.65%.
Lombardi played for the Flames from 2003-2009 and was known for his outstanding speed.
