A former District of Columbia mayoral candidate was arrested a little after 1 am early this morning.
Former Democratic candidate Sulaimon Brown was arrested for driving on a suspended Maryland license after a routine traffic stop in Northwest Washington, D.C.
Around 1:10 a.m. a Metropolitan Police cruiser pulled over Brown car for a broken/unlit headlight in the 600 block of Florida Avenue, NW.
Brown, who was considered a long-shot candidate for D.C. mayor. He has alleged officials in Mayor Vincent Gray's campaign chairperson and other aides paid him thousands of dollars in cash if he attacked the campaign of then mayor Adrian Fenty. Borwn also claims he was promised a job once Gray was elected. He did eventually get a $110,000 job in the administration, but Gray claims he was never promised a job, but was promise an interview for an undetermined position.
At many of his campaign speeches he's been noted as saying, "If you don't vote for me, vote for Gray."
The allegations caught the attention of the U.S. Congress and the F.B.I. A six-month investigation confirmed a top Gray campaign official paid him for his disparaging remarks, but Gray sticks to his guns saying he didn't know anything about any monies paid by any member of his campaign staff. The 47-page report also said Gray allowed top aides to make critical personnel decisions early in his administration.
Brown has since been released from custody.
