Samantha Harris, the one-time cohost of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars,” has been bravely battling cancer for the last few months. After undergoing a double mastectomy in May, the pretty brunette learned the cancer had spread according to a June 20 report on Yahoo! Celebrity.

After undergoing what she referred to as a “grueling double mastectomy," Harris awoke to find her surgeon standing over her with a sad look on his face. He had disappointing news to share with the TV host. The cancer, her surgeon discovered during surgery, had spread beyond Harris’s breasts.

"When I came to in recovery, my surgeon was standing over me with a look of sadness and told me that he had to take out all of my lymph nodes," Harris said. The reason for the removal of the lymph nodes was to do additional testing. The 40-year-old got good news and bad news a few days later. The good news was that only one lymph node tested positive for cancer. The bad news is that treatment would probably mean chemo.

Certainly this is not the kind of news any woman or any cancer patient in general wants to hear. Harris is frightened of the prospects but says she takes inspiration from the many women who have travelled this road before her.

"I am scared by the prospect of chemo, but I know so many inspiring women who have gone through it and, as they told me, 'rocked it,'" she said. "If I need it, I will take a deep breath and readjust my focus."

Harris first shared the news of her breast cancer in April. She saw three different specialists in an effort to make sure she had all the defects and could make an informed decision about the treatment. The former “Entertainment Tonight” correspondent opted for the double mastectomy in order to take control of the cancer.

Harris shared her video diaries with “Entertainment Tonight” including one which highlighted her mastectomy procedure. Keeping up the brave face, Harris tweeted yesterday “5 weeks post-mastectomy today & back in @equinox #metcon3 interval training class this morning. May not be back to full push-ups...but BACK!” Whether or not she chooses to continue making the videos if she undergoes chemo is not known but Harris a brave fighter. Whatever she chooses, we hope she knows she is in our thoughts and hearts.
