When Michael Muhney (Adam) was abruptly released from ‘The Young and the Restless,’ fans were shocked and saddened.

We’ve seen a lot of buzz online as to what prompted Muhney’s dismissal but at this point, it’s all just speculation. A number of people feel that Executive Producer Jill Farren Phelps is to blame but some of Muhney’s former co-stars have spoken out in support of the EP.

One of the first was veteran actor Doug Davidson (Paul). Although, he refrained from releasing any specific details, Davidson tweeted the following message (via Michael Fairman):

‘Honestly, JPF’s is not to blame. She is terrific. Today’s events don’t reflect her leadership. Trust me, there is more to the story. The Young and the Restless is a team sport. Please know we love you guys and we will continue to bring you the best show we can. I’ve got at least 20 cast mates that vow the same pledge.’

Actress Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) had something to say on the subject as well.

‘…THE SHOW IS NOT 2 BLAME. ANY actor would've been fired under these circumstances. Terrible loss 2 the show & it sickens me that this has happened. Jill is completely innocent in this. So is the show,Sony,CBS,etc.Tragic situation,’ the actress tweeted (via Soap Opera Digest).

Whatever the reason, Muhney is out. As for what really happened to prompt the actor’s release from the show, nothing has been confirmed at this time.

‘The Young and the Restless’ airs weekdays at 12:30 on Detroit’s local CBS affiliate WWJ.
