Much like his NFL career, former San Diego quarterback Ryan Leaf always seems to be getting flagged for doing something wrong.
According to multiple reports Thursday, Leaf has been transferred from a treatment center in his native Montana to the state prison.
Leaf, who was sentenced to a five-year commitment to the Montana Department of Corrections for drug and burglary charges in June, had been in a lock-down drug rehabilitation facility dating back to July of 2012.
The first nine months of that sentence were to be located in a treatment center, with Leaf then to be transferred to six months in a pre-release center. If Leaf had met the required conditions, he likely would have been given supervised community placement for the rest of the five years, according to the Great Falls Tribune.
However, the Tribune says it became aware Thursday that the Montana Department of Corrections terminated Leaf from the treatment program and sent him to prison after he was found to be guilty of behavior that violated conditions of his drug treatment placement.
According to reports, the violations included threatening a program staff member.
Leaf, the second pick in the 1998 NFL Draft, never made it with success or the fans in San Diego, being waived by the Bolts in February of 2001. He briefly spent time with the Dallas Cowboys before retiring. He completed 317 of 655 (48.4%) passes for 3,666 yards, with 14 touchdowns and 36 interceptions in his time in the NFL.
Problems followed Leaf around outside the gridiron, as he was indicted in May 2009 on burglary and controlled substance charges in Texas.
Leaf followed that up with an arrest in March of 2012 on burglary, theft, and drug charges in his hometown of Great Falls, Mont. Less than a week later, Leaf was arrested again on burglary, theft, and two counts of criminal possession of dangerous drugs.
As part of a plea bargain arrangement, on May 8, 2012 he pleaded guilty to a single count of felony burglary and one count of criminal possession of a dangerous drug.
