According to his son Jeremy, Sig Gutsche passed away of a heart attack in his sleep.
Gutsche was the owner of the Stampeders from 1996-2001. He was credited with restoring stability for the Stampeders. During his time at the helm the Stampeders won the 1998 Grey Cup.
Gutsche purchased the Stampeders for $1.6 million in 1996 and then sold the football club to American Michael Feterik in 2001.
Gutsche was also an active businessman in Calgary. He was involved in the oil and gas sector and was the former owner of Hard Rock Cafe Calgary, which was located at Eau Claire Market.
The Guetsche family would like people to donate to Ovarian Cancer Canada instead of sending flowers.
