Former brother in law testifies that Mayfield used meth 'daily', but does anyone still care?

The continuing soap opera of a large corporation taking on a poor defenseless innocent man is once again threatening to take attention away from the sport at the best time of the year.

NASCAR has fired another shot in the continuing battle with former driver Jeremy Mayfield.

Lawyers representing NASCAR filed several motions in federal court Monday including ones seeking to have a judge order mental and physical evaluations of Mayfield according to a report from the AP. The evaluations will be used to decide if he has either a substance abuse problem or the attention deficit disorder Mayfield has claimed on several occasions he suffers from.

According to Mayfield it was a combination of medications he was prescribed for the disorder in conjunction with an allergy medicine that caused him to test positive for methamphetamines in May of this year.

A second test administered by NASCAR, again came back positive and Mayfield again denied using any illegal drugs.

Mayfield was the first driver suspended under NASCAR’s new tougher substance policy. Since his suspension eight days after he tested positive, both sides had filed motions, lawsuits and several injections have been issued and countered.

NASCAR had earlier filed motions that contained affidavits from several witnesses who said they personally witnessed Mayfield using meth on ‘numerous’ occasions.

One of the witnesses in the affidavits was Mayfield’s former stepmother, Lisa Mayfield.  After that filing, Mayfield accused his former stepmother of being involved in the death of his father, although authorities had ruled it a suicide. He went further and recently filed a lawsuit against her. Last month Lisa Mayfield was arrested outside the home Jeremy shares with his wife Shana and charged with drunk and disorderly conduct.

In Monday’s filing NASCAR again submitted a deposition, this one from Mayfield’s ex-brother in law David Keith who testified that he personally witnessed Mayfield use meth on several occasions during a two-year period and that Mayfield’s meth use had become a ‘daily’ habit.

If the judge grants the motion, the examinations would take place in November and be given by doctors NASCAR has already selected.

If history is any indication, Mayfield will fire back by accusing his brother in law of killing his dog in while they were in grade school and of course calling all witnesses that NASCAR has sworn testimony from, meaning of course that if any of them lie they are subject to prosecution, liars. And that any doctors provided by NASCAR are of course quacks.

With all the evidence mounting against him maybe its time Mayfield comes clean, both literally and figuratively. He should quickly submit to being examined and if its determined he does have a problem, then get the help he needs so everyone, including his dwindling group of supporters can move on.

Let’s focus on what is shaping up to be the best Chase in years, maybe ever.

Where is NASCAR going to go next to destroy Mayfield? Stepmother, ex brother in law, meth a daily habit? Credible witness statements NASCAR please? This has gone far past a drug test! NASCAR does not want this case to ever get to any court room for several reasons. NASCAR is openly showing now what they have managed to hide inside the sport for years. The absolute vindictiveness and evil that anyone that stands up to them will have thrown on them. This isn't new folks, they just went public this time!

Your coverage of Mayfield smells of NASCAR looking over your shoulder and telling you what to write. You have proven to me that you have no credibility in covering this story when you make stupid comments about how Mayfield will respond to the Brother In-laws actuations. Cover the story, get the facts and report them. Your personal feeling have nothing to do with who is guilty or not. NASCAR will stop at nothing to get anyone they can to Lie, cheat, or commit perjury on the stand for 15 minutes of fame or to settle a grudge.

Let the facts and the courts do there job!!!

Doctors that NASCAR has already selected? Yeah, right... I guess the test results are already in, too.

NASCAR needs to make sure this plays out, to the end, in court - and let the chips fall where they may. Otherwise the NASCAR-bashers in the media will always say there was a cover-up and that JM was innocent, which he might be. Right and wrong should be settled in court, in the light of day - not in the dark recesses of the alleged minds of the media.
