Santa Fe Bite is as good as the old Bobcat Bite. The new restaurant next to Garrett's Desert Inn is the reincarnation of John and Bonnie Eckre's Bobcat Bite which was formerly out on Old Las Vegas Highway. We don't know what will be opened at the old location so we'll keep a lookout.
The new "Bite" has an expansive patio, a nicely appointed dining room and maintains some of the old favorites like the Green Chile Cheeseburger. In fact, I found that you can have one for brunch on Sunday. We stopped by for brunch on the Sunday of Indian Market. While the hamburgers were enticing, we opted for more standard breakfast fare.
I had an interesting fritatta with spinach dotted with goat cheese. It was light and delicious. My friend enjoyed heartier fare... the huevos rancheros, also excellent.
A visitor from New York, commented, "The huevos rancheros with green chili were so good, I was reluctant to try anything else. But…I was convinced to share the cornmeal pancakes… I expected the cornmeal pancakes to be heavy, but they were light in the middle and crunchy on the edges, generously filled with blueberries. The coffee is delicious."
The prices were mid-range, low for downtown Santa Fe. They menu has expanded. The service was friendly and attentive and we vowed to return.
Some are not aware that they are closed on Mondays so you might call and check before going to eat at the new Bite.
You can park at Garrett's for two hours for FREE! This eliminates the issue of downtown parking for the new site.
Since this is a new opening, hours are subject to change, so I'd check with them before going.
