Veteran defenseman Brett Clark is returning to the Colorado Avalanche organization.

On Friday, the 36-year-old blueliner signed a professional tryout contract with Colorado’s AHL affiliate: The Lake Erie Monsters.

A veteran of 689 NHL games; Clark played in the Avalanche organization from 2002-2010. During the 2004-2005 season, he served as captain of the Avs’ former AHL affiliate: the Hershey Bears. Clark had stints last season with the Minnesota Wild and the AHL’s Oklahoma City Barons.

In eight games with the Wild, Clark scored one point and was minus-9. He fared much better at the AHL level; scoring 17 points in 18 games.

Selected in the 6th round of the 1996 NHL Entry Drast, Clark has also played with the Montreal Canadiens, Atlanta Thrashers and Tampa Bay Lightning during his NHL career.

The Lake Erie Monsters will be in action Friday night, as they host the Hamilton Bulldogs at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.
