Former 'American Idol' contestant in race for Miss Mississippi

Jasmine Murray, a top-13 finalist on "American Idol" during Season 8, is among the contestants for Miss Mississippi 2012.

She was crowned Miss Spirit of the South 2012 on Sunday night.

Murray made the announcement on Twitter and included a photo of herself wearing her new crown.

Among the solos she performed before being eliminated on "American Idol" were "Big Girls Don't Cry," "The Trouble with Love Is," "Tattoo," "Love Song," "Reflection" and "I'll Be There."

Now 19 years old, Murray is a former Miss Mississippi's Outstanding Teen. The teen pageant is the younger-sister pageant to Miss America, and is for girls ages 13-17.

Since her stint on "American Idol," she has continued to perform, and is a popular attraction at pageants and sporting events.
