Ricin is a deadly poison, and according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “It would take a deliberate act to make ricin and use it to poison people.”

Because of the biological weapon, Shannon Guess Richardson, 36, is now facing jail time.

Richardson pleaded guilty in federal court on Tuesday to making the ricin letters which were sent to President Obama and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

A federal grand jury accused her in a three-count indictment of mailing the letters to Obama, Bloomberg and Mark Glaze, director of Mayors Against Illegal Guns.

The organization’s website boasts, “The nation's largest gun violence prevention advocacy organization now includes 1,000 mayors from 46 states and 1.5 million grassroots supporters.”

Richardson struck a deal with federal prosecutors that she would spend 18 years in prison and then five years on supervised release, court documents state.

The former actress initially tried to blame her husband for sending the letters, but she failed a polygraph test regarding his alleged participation, and investigators found inconsistencies in her story.
