When upheaval in Mexico spurned a shortage of limes in the U.S., the thirst for a margarita did not die. Desperate margarita aficionado turned to bottled lime juice to get by. Hussong's of Las Vegas is helping the margarita live on by adding a new menu of specialty concoctions. Legend has it that classic drink was actually invented at Hussong's original location in Ensenada, Mexico back in 1941. A bartender by the name of Don Carlos Orozco made a drink with equal parts tequila, Damiana and lime, served it over ice in a salt-rimmed glass. He named the drink for a beautiful woman named Margarita Henkel who was a frequent customer of the bar.
Getting inspiration from the hot Las Vegas summer, Hussong's has added a new menu of ten margaritas made with exotic fruits, cotton candy and even peanut butter. Every girl will dying to try the new Cotton Candy Rita. This fluffy concoction is made tableside, with a Hussong's Original Margarita poured over a heaping glass of cotton candy. Picture yourself on a beach in Brazil with the Carnaval de Rio Rita, a blend of passion fruit and pineapple, made with Diosa Mango tequila. Hussong's really goes outside the box with the Tamarindo Lindo, a marg made with tamarind, orange and Hussong’s Resposado tequila. But the pièce de résistance has to be the the PB&J. It features Sauza Reposado tequila, crème de cassis, muddled blackberries and a peanut butter rim made from Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
