Forget Outdated Fashion Rules, Navy Blue and Black Are Good Together

For years I’ve done the navy blue and black combo and just recently thought to ask around to see what people thought about it. After receiving a mix of answers, I learned that some people are still haunted by the outdated fashion myth that the two colors can’t be worn at the same time.

A terrific example of wearing navy blue with black (Milan Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2008).

Well, that is simply not the case -- navy blue and black are both neutrals, which means you can wear them with anything. Including each other. The two have often been paired together on the runway by major designers like Marc Jacobs, Thakoon, Derek Lam, Donna Karan, Calvin Klein, and many others over the past few years.

I found some favorite looks that incorporate both colors. See the slideshow for details (and hopefully some inspiration for those who are nervous about making the fashion leap into the 2010 decade).
