Forevermark presents 'Breathe In' New York premiere with Felicity Jones

Felicity Jones, writer/director Drake Doremus and actress Amy Ryan attend the 'Breathe In' premiere at Sunshine Landmark in New York City
Getty Images was on the scene at the New York premiere of Drake Doremus’s latest oeuvre, "Breathe In," which is a lesson in the power of naturalistic filmmaking on March 19. Following the success of his 2011 film "Like Crazy," Doremus decided to examine the relationship between visitors from abroad and their American hosts. Starring Felicity Jones and Guy Pierce as a pair of talented musicians, who form an unlikely friendship through bonding over their craft, the film takes a detailed look at the process of creating art and the fallout from the quest for freedom. When Jones, playing British exchange student Sophie, enters the quiet world of high school music teacher Keith Reynolds (played by Pierce) and his family, she forces Keith to reconsider the direction his life has taken in favor of a more liberated path.

Amy Ryan, who portrays Pierce’s homemaking wife in the film, explained that the filmic style utilizes subtle nuances and character quirks to convey underlying emotional tumult, saying, “I play Megan, a woman who is devoted to her family, and family life, and her passion…is collecting valuable cookie jars. And I kind of think that’s a little bit of a metaphor for her…something that might seem silly on the outside but is valuable and it is fragile”.

However, despite the darker questions the film delved into, Ryan insisted the filming process was a joy, stating, “It was a very serious film, but we all had great laughs…Drake [Doremus] is such a livewire and a positive experience”.

Jones heartily agreed with Ryan’s assessment of the filming process, saying,
“I really liked playing her because there was something very different about her. I felt like she was quite a troubled woman and there was something very attractive about playing someone who isn’t cookie-cutter good”.

The film’s scrupulous examination of the nuclear family and the devastating results when an outside force disrupts the fragile ecosystem within may not be the feel-good family movie of the year, but its organic narrative style, beautifully melodic score, and outstanding cast transform it into a must-see for 2014.

The evening was sponsored by Forevermark Diamonds. Felicity Jones wore diamond stud earrings and a diamond bangle from The Center of My Universe Collection and Amy Ryan wore diamond bangles from The Center of My Universe Collection as well as Diamond Cluster Stud Earrings and the Cluster Shield Ring. Following the screening guests headed over to the Hotel Chantelle Rooftop for Red Bulls, Stella and canapés.

Addition guests who joined writer/director Drake Doremus and writer Ben York Jones included Michael Shannon, Julie Taymor, musician Lily Lane, director Marc Webb, Anna Wood, Aleksa Palladino, Timothee Chalamet, Christopher McDonald, Ellen von Unwerth, Michael Weber, Zachary Wigon, Jay Manuel, DJ’s AndrewAndrew, Louisa Krause, Todd and Megan DiCiurcio, Matthew Asti, Chaske Spencer, models Teresa Moore, Ciara Nugent and Elena Foley, Arden Wohl, Eric West and Ty Hickson.

The film hits theaters March 28th, 2014 and run time is 97 minutes.
