The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Randy Christian announced that deputies responded to a call of report of shots fired just before 12:30 a.m. on the morning of Sept. 7, 2013, in the 200 block of Crabapple Lane in Forestdale. Once on the scene deputies learned that a man had been shot and had left in a private car to go to the hospital.
UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Ala., contacted the Sheriff's Office to report a shooting victim had arrived in the emergency room. The victim, 20 year old Andre Tyreece Davis of Birmingham, was pronounced dead before deputies arrived. The investigation revealed that Andre Davis was seen talking to the suspect, James Kevin Mixon. The suspect pulled out a handgun and fired several times at Davis. Mixon then fled the scene.
Sheriff's Office detectives inquired of family members to learn his whereabouts. At about 1:45 p.m., 25 year old James Kevin Mixon of Forestdale accompanied by his attorney turned himself in to deputies. He refused to make any statement or answer questions about the shooting. The motive for this homicide has not yet been determined. Mixon is currently in the Jefferson County Jail charged with murder. Bond has been set at $75,000.
