Earlier this year, we had the opportunity to drive a new 2014 Ford Focus ST at the Texas Motor Speedway. The experience left us absolutely certain that there was so much more performance available in this car that the average owner would probably never experience - unless properly schooled. Ford is now going to take care of that with their announcement of a new and complimentary ST Octane Academy that will be provided by Ford Racing instructors at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah.
This program, very similar to the Mustang GT and F-150 SVT Raptor programs offered at Miller Motorsports, will be available later this year sponsored by Ford Racing at Miller Motorsports Park, exclusively for initial owners of 2013 and 2014 Focus ST and the new 2014 Fiesta ST high performance small cars.
The Ford ST Octane Academy will provide owners a chance to learn firsthand the capabilities of their cars – and themselves - while behind the wheel of the Focus ST or a Fiesta ST. Owners will get a full immersion into the Ford ST experience, with driving instruction and extensive course time with professional instructors. When they graduate they will fully understand the performance capabilities of their own ST and will have new skills making them a better performance – and every day driver as well.
All participants will need to do is arrange travel (on their own dime) to Salt Lake City to take advantage of this exclusive drive experience. Specially modified and fully safety equipped Focus ST and Fiesta ST cars are provided by Miller Motorsports Park for participants’ use in all exercises. And, if learning to drive their own personal Focus or Fiesta GT is not enough excitement, an optional day of instruction is available that will include the Ford Mustang GT on the track and off-road driving in a Ford F-150 SVT Raptor.
While owners will be responsible for their travel plus hotel costs, Ford will cover costs of the driving school in its entirety. The optional-day Mustang GT and Raptor events are not complimentary – the participant will need to pay for the time behind the wheel of the Mustang GT and/or the SVT Raptor.
But, since you are already there, why not?
There are options available for guests to come along for the fun. A full schedule will be announced this summer. If you are a Focus ST or Fiesta ST owner now or are going to be shortly, you will want to take advantage of this opportunity to make your new ride really perform. For more information, visit the ST Octane Academy website for complete details.
Following on the success of the Ford Focus ST beginning in 2013, Ford is offering a new Ford Fiesta ST that will be available in North America later this summer. The Fiesta ST is a bit smaller than the Focus ST and will feature a new high-output variant of the 1.6-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, delivering an estimated 197 horsepower and 202 lb.-ft. of torque delivered through a 6-speed manual transmission. The Focus ST, is powered by a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine that produces 252 horsepower with 270 lb.-ft of torque delivered through a 6-speed manual transmission with a top speed in excess of 150 mph.
Whichever one you choose – Focus ST or Fiesta ST – these cars, with their racing DNA provided by the Ford Racing group, go like the wind. You simply cannot miss the opportunity through the ST Octane Academy to maximize your ST driving experience.
