Forbes richest people in the world list has just been released. Bill Gates tops the list for the first time in four years. According to Forbes on Mar. 3, it has been a very good year to many.

Capitalism has indeed worked well for Gates, who’s back on top of the Forbes billionaires list for the first time in four years. It’s been good to the other 1,645 people on the wealth ranking.

Forbes richest people range from Gates, with a net worth of $76 billion to Sarik Tara, rounding out the list with $3.3 billion from construction. Each of the top 500 are multi-billionaires in their own right. The top 500 are worth a staggering $4.4 trillion alone. All combined, the 1,645 people who made the list are worth $6.4 trillion.

The top ten members of the Forbes richest people list are Bill Gates, Carlos Slim Helu & family, Amancio Ortega, Warren Buffett, Larry Ellison, Charles Koch, David Koch, Sheldon Adelson, Christy Walton & family, and Jim Walton. Christy Walton, Liliane Bettencourt and their families represent the richest women in the world today. Forty percent of the top 5, both Gates and Larry Ellison made their money from the software companies, now tech giants that they each founded, Microsoft and Oracle. And members of the Walton family of Walmart fame represent twenty percent of the top ten.
