The Holidays would not be complete without the sights that accompany and inspire us each year. We enter the local department store to purchase all the goodies we can carry and greeting us at the entrance is the Salvation Army.
When William Booth started the Salvation Army in 1865,his desire was to spread good will and the good news of Christianity to the world starting first in London,England.
The Salvation Army is a Christian organization and part of the universal Christian Church and all that it does is rooted in the faith of its members. The love for God and humanity is the motivation behind all that its members do.
The organization adopted a military approach in 1878 when the term "The Salvation Army" was first used. The use of uniforms,flags and ranks inspire the "Salvationist" to approach the spiritual warfare of winning souls for Christ in a similar manner as that of the military.
As of 2008,the Salvation Army serves in 115 countries and territories and utilizes 175 different languages.
We think of Bell ringers in front of the stores with the kettle for money collection however the Salvation Army is involved in much more, such as social programs,addiction dependency,emergency disaster response and education endeavors and continues to be thought of as one of the more reputable charitable organizations.
