The filming is done, and “Kimchikhan,” the movie, is on schedule to debut in Hollywood in December. It’s the first-ever movie about kimchi, a spicy fermented food made of cabbage, beloved by Koreans but finding increased acceptance by American shoppers.
Steve Shin, the movie’s producer/director, shot scenes for his movie in Korea and the U.S. using chefs whose dishes will tell a story of health and well-being. The film is both a travelogue and documentary. We theatre-goers will view the movie in both 2D and 3D, a unique entertainment experience for a lot of us, and from the trailer I saw on YouTube (take a few minutes to watch it. The link is below.) I expect to be thoroughly convinced to make room in my diet for kimchi, and enjoy its healing powers.
It was Steve Shin’s experience in a near-fatal car crash over 20 years ago that brought him into contact with kimchi. He credits the food with restoring his life, and the movie is his tribute to the food and its ability to help others
