For Orlando music quality is the norm

This week, August 4-10 is another week full of music news and great shows choices for local music fans. The quality of available talent in Orlando never diminishes; it only grows stronger every week through the hard work and dedication of Orlando musicians, bolstered by a strong community spirit.

There are two fundraisers still underway this week. On Give Forward friends of singer/songwriter Sean “Legacy” Maloney are collecting money to get him a new leg. Orlando singer/songwriters Reggie Williams and Matthew Fowler have a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for their upcoming tour and special EP release.

The team at Firestone Live Entertainment has announced a new weekly event which will mainly focus on local musicians and talent called the Collective Culture. The shows will take place at The Brink and feature bands, hip hop shows, spoken word, comedy showcases, art and the occasional touring act. The first show will be August 28 with live music by Shout London, Everyday I, Hadley’s Hope and The Cold Start.

Tuesday morning Leaving Haven will be on “The Daily Buzz.” The band is debuting their new single, “Look So Good” on the nationally syndicated television show at 6:30 a.m.

Tuesday night Orlandobands.com is kicking off their new weekly open mic night at The Haven. Every Tuesday fans can expect to see choice acts that include bands, solo performers, comedy and variety acts.

On Friday, Orlando band Meka Nism is having a Kickstarter Launch Party at St. Matthew’s Tavern. Supporters will be find donation stations, a silent auction, guest host/MC David Plotkin and special guest bartenders.

Also on Friday is the return of ArrythmiA after a long hiatus. The band has a show at The Haven with Cold War Relic, Broken Stars and Stone Clover.

Saturday night is a big show at The House of Blues. Fan favorite band Ambertone is reuniting for a one-time-only show and Leaving Haven is celebrating the release of their new single and video. Also on the bill are Maybe if You Hit It and Fiery Sushi.

Monday, August 4

Will’s Pub - 1042 N. Mills Ave. - Live music by BJ Barham (American Aquarium) and Kaleigh Baker for this 18+ show. The doors open at 8 p.m. and tickets are $10.

BB Kings Blues Club - 9101 International Dr. - Live music by Trae Pierce and Tstone from 7:30-11:30 p.m.

West End Trading Company - 202 S. Sanford Ave. (Sanford) - RPR presents open mic hosted by Jason “Gote” VanDeMaat at 8 p.m. This FREE event is 18+.

Tuesday, August 5

The Red Lion Pub - 3784 Howell Branch Road - Twisted Tuesday with I-Resolution for this 18+ show. This FREE event includes live music and other entertainment as well as a home-cooked meal, with a $2 donation to the Red Lion Community Emergency Fund. The live music starts at 7:30 p.m.

BackBooth - 37 W. Pine St. - Live music by Steady Hands, WC Lindsay, Every You and more for this show. Tickets are $5 in advance or $8 day of show. The doors open at 7 p.m.

The Haven - 6700 Aloma Ave. - Kickoff for the weekly Orlandobands.com open mic night featuring bands, solo performers, comedy and variety acts. Starts at 8 p.m.

Snap! Space - 1013 E. Colonial Dr. - Anthology Orlando: A Night of Story and Spirits featuring five writers’ original works paired with a custom cocktail served to attendees and also includes live music from The Cook Trio. There are two shows, one at 8 p.m. and one at 10 p.m. Tickets are $30.

Orchid Garden at Church Street - 122 W. Church St. - The 8th Annual MBGC Prom has a Roaring 20’s theme this year. Expect dancing, hand-made decorations, balloons, free cocktail, desserts, chance drawing, silent auction, swag bag, costume prizes and a live DJ and band. This event is to benefit BASE Camp Children's Cancer Foundation. Tickets are $25 in advance or $40 day of prom. There are also a limited number of special VIP tables at $500 each.
