If you're looking for some cool types of Halloween movies to watch, consider one of the many flesh-eater types of movies. Filmmakers have produced a variety of horror films involving "flesh-eaters." Flesh-eaters come in a variety of forms - everything from flesh-devouring fish and organisms, to the more common flesh-chomping zombies. In all, there are approximately 10 types of flesh-eaters to work with in the horror genre. It is probably safe to say that horror fans will see more creative genius regarding this topic as time goes on. Listed are the most common types of flesh-eaters movies have showcased in horror movies:
1. Zombies: While White Zombie is the first zombie film ever made (1932), it is not the first film most people think of when you say the word "zombie." Most give that credit to the Godfather of all zombies, Mr. George Romero who came out with his first zombie film, Night of the Living Dead in 1968. We were introduced to flesh-eaters with this film and saw firsthand what ravenous zombies would do to get it.
2. Cannibals: As long as there have been humans on this Earth, there have been cannibals. No one knows exactly when or how cannibalism started. Some say it could have developed as far back as the days of the caveman, and when they began to run out of alternate food sources, they began to eat their own. Or it could have been during difficult Roman times around 70 AD when the fall of Jerusalem happened. Others claim it was during times of Egyptian famine back in the early 1200s or during the Donner Party outing in the winters of 1846-47. However long it's been around, it inspired some of our best horror films like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre series and literally hundreds more.
3. Diseases: Flesh-eating diseases would be a horrendous way to go as well. These come from internal infections that have gone untreated and then spread by way of skin contact, blood or body fluid contact. Some diseases could be spread through a contaminated water source as well like in the case of Eli Roth's Cabin Fever. Can you imagine having your flesh basically rotting off your body and bone from the inside out? Ewwwww..........cool to watch though when the special effects are done properly.
4. Organism/Parasites: I can't even imagine what a flesh-eating organism or parasite would feel like as it's slowly eating away at your skin and insides. These types of flesh-eaters can be man-made (toxins being dumped or experiments gone wrong), or they could come from an alien source like in the horror movie Splinter.
5. Fish: When it comes to flesh-eating fish, encountering hungry piranha would be the worst experience. You're literally being picked apart (down to the bone I might add) by millions of razor-sharp teeth. Sharks also can be considered flesh-eaters.....but they can take a person out in one or two chomps, so honestly that would be the better way to go. There would be much less pain and anguish from a shark than a school of piranha.
6. Werewolves: Most horror movies involving werewolves showcase some type of flesh-eating, for not all victims are just fed upon and turned. Most are torn limb from limb and used as breakfast, lunch and maybe a tasty snack!
7. Demons: There are few movies that come to mind when thinking of demon flesh-eaters. The first being, Tales of the Crypt: Demon Night. There was also Dead Alive and Night of the Flesh Eaters.
8. Vampires: Most vampires are not flesh-eaters. There are very few vampire movies that involve anything more than vamps draining their victims of blood. But in Stakeland, that all changed. The rogue mindless vampires in this film not only tore their victims apart, but fed on their flesh as well.
9. Plants: This was a new one to me, but after watching The Ruins, those flesh-eating plants were no joke and nothing I'd ever want to encounter.
10. Bugs: With movies like Eight-Legged Freaks and Arachnophobia, plus a slew of SyFy originals containing armies of flesh-eating ants, locusts and more, bugs secured a spot in my top 10 list of flesh-eaters.
