Last Wednesday, September 4, 2013, a three-year-old Maltese named Darby was brutally thrown against a wall and killed by her dog groomer, Rebecca Barbara, who worked at Spring Valley Veterinary Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.
Darby belonged to Bill and Barbara Calhoun who are shocked, devastated and outraged by this tragic incident. When the Calhouns arrived at the hospital, Darby was still alive and she recognized them. They said goodbye to their precious little dog by kissing and petting her, and she died shortly thereafter. The Calhouns have no children so they treated Darby like their sweet and innocent little child.
According to the groomer, Rebecca Barbara, the 8-pound dog attacked and bit her, and she 'thus feared for her life'. Dr. Ted Betzen, the owner of the veterinary hospital, stated that he did not know exactly what happened but the groomer tossed the dog... with enough force to cause fatal injuries.
According to Dr. Betzen, the groomer has been fired and she, along with the rest of the hospital staff, deeply regrets Darby's death and is devastated by the incident.
Bill and Barbara Calhoun plan to take legal action against Spring Valley Veterinary Hospital located at 1700 S. Enterprise Avenue, Springfield, Missouri 65804.
