Gettysburg is a great place to get into the patriotic spirit, and Memorial Day Weekend is as great a time as any to be patriotic and prepared for summertime. So come on out to the borough of Gettysburg, this weekend for a three-day celebration of special events, sales and so much more.

As part of the weekend-wide Memorial Day Celebration, The Daniel Lady Farm will be displaying An “American Military Timeline” from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., May 24 through 26. Sponsored by the American Living History Education Society in conjunction with the Gettysburg Battlefield Preservation Association, this living history opportunity is designed to teach families in a friendly fashion about United States military history from the Colonial era up through the Vietnam War days. Living history re-enactors will be encamped on site, portraying the roles of their designated time in American military history. Interactive demonstrations will be ongoing to illustrate and accurately depict life at their encampments, and a special World War II section will even feature a large number of actual artifacts from the event. Food and drink vendors will be present as well as history and artifact sellers. Admission is $5 for ages 12 and older. Children under 12 are free. The Daniel Lady Farm is located at 980 Hanover Road, Gettysburg. For more information, call 717-338-1776.

Throughout town, various shops and other businesses are promoting special offers and sales. Who doesn’t need new clothing, supplies and other preparations for the coming summer months? The Gettysburg Village Outlets have you covered with an all-out sidewalk sale. The sale took off yesterday on Friday, May 23 and will run through the day on Monday, May 26. Special store hours are from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday and Monday.

What are your dining plans looking like this weekend? In Gettysburg, you have plenty of options to choose from, but for many, nothing says Memorial Day like a good-olde cookout. Well on Sunday, May 25, Adams County Winery is doing just that. Between the hours of 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., you and your family (including pets) are invited to come out to the grounds for a free picnicking event. Bring your own picnic lunch or purchase food from a local vendor truck that will be stationed onsite during the duration of the event. As you sit around with family and friends, enjoy live music by RePlay. Adams County Winery is located at 251 Peach Tree Road, in nearby Orrtanna. Monday, May 26 is the big day—Memorial Day, and that means Gettysburg will be holding it’s 147th annual Gettysburg Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony. Come out and be a part of one of the oldest continuing ceremonies in the country. The Grand Marshall for this year’s parade will be Major General Anthony Cucolo who will also serve as the keynote speaker in the ceremony following the parade.
