The football season is finally back and America for the most part is ready for its now favorite sports game. However a lot has happened in the world of football in the Washington, D.C. metro area outside of the game that is anything but exciting.
Tragedy hit the Diaz family of Woodbridge, Va. when 18-year-old Kenny Joseph Diaz was stabbed and laid bleeding in Marumsco Acre Lake Park on Saturday, Sept. 21. He later died at an area hospital.
Students at Woodbridge High where Diaz attended and the community are shocked over his death. He was described by others as “shy, deeply religious, and always with a smile on his face.”
Multiple arrests have been made in Diaz’s murder – some media sources have revealed six people while WTOP have listed eight. Read more on the story from WTOP below.
Woodbridge Vikings Head Football Coach Kanbi Dede commented on the first day of practice after Diaz’s death. The video is below from the Washington Post.
Jacoby Jones injury
Jacoby Jones, the talented #12 wide receiver of the Super Bowl Champions Baltimore Ravens, got into a dilemma recently carousing at a fellow teammate’s birthday party. The party was at the Opera Ultra Lounge, a high-end nightclub located at 1400 I Street NW in Washington, D.C. More on this story is from the celebrity gossip website TMZ –
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was not pleased as to what occurred. His comments below are stated according to espn.go.com –
Harbaugh characterized Jones as "fine" and indicated that the Pro Bowl kick returner attended meetings on Monday.
I’m not very impressed personally with the report," Harbaugh said. "It's not something we want to be known for. We'd like to think it's not something those guys would want to be known for. It's nothing to be proud of, so I'm kind of disappointed in that sense."
Harbaugh spoke to Jones and the players involved in the situation.
“‘What do you want to be known for?'" Harbaugh said he told the players. "'Do you want to be known as a football player or do you want to be known for that?' I don't think it's anything to be proud of."
Harbaugh also indicated that he wasn't happy with his players partying into the early-morning hours.
"That was enforced in our household that nothing good happens after midnight," Harbaugh said. "I did reiterate that with the guys today."
Jones has not played in the last two victories of the Ravens; he was injured in the season opener against the Denver Broncos that the Ravens lost.
However Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco commented on the Jones fiasco in a recent article in the Baltimore Sun titled “Ravens QB Joe Flacco says Ray Lewis should know better.” Lewis made comments about Jacoby's behavior and stated more leadership was needed from him on ESPN's "Monday Night Football" where he now has a job as an analyst. Flacco’s comments are relevant; if anybody knows better it would be Ray Lewis. The article can be read below.

More on the delay of the trial and the accused is given below.
Another date has been rescheduled for October 15.
