Examiner.com has learned that Murray State officials are moving closer to identifying a group of 10 to 15 finalists for the vacant head football coach position.
Among those who are being considered are former Racer assistant coach Randall McCray, currently the recruiting coordinator at Wisconsin, South Carolina assistant coach Shane Beamer and TCU assistant coach Justin Fuente, who was a record-setting quarterback for the Racers in 1998-99.
Murray State officials are also expected to visit Dan Werner, who served as a Racer assistant coach under Joe Pannunzio before moving to the University of Miami and Ole Miss as an assistant coach, former Georgia Southern and Valdosta State coach Chris Hatcher, and Lambuth coach Hugh Freeze.
Another name Murray State may have been considering, Eddie Gran, an assistant coach at Tennessee is expected to be named to Jimbo Fisher's new staff at Florida State – possibly as assistant head coach.
Murray State athletic director Allen Ward is unavailble for comment early this week, assistant athletic director Dave Winder told Examiner.com Monday morning.
Ward told Examiner.com last week that he hoped to have a coach in place before the university's Christmas holiday break.
