Football's 'Miracle baby' Tim Tebow: Christian faith vs political abortion war

Tim Tebow, a devout Christian, and quarterback for the Denver Broncos appeared on O'Reilly's No Spin Zone last evening and the subject spun to the controversy of his faith mixing with what some only see as a secular sports environment.  Tim has previously been attacked for a pro-life Super Bowl ad he did, with his mother, celebrating his life after ignoring doctor's suggestions to abort him for health reasons and has dealt with the controversy his faith has ignited before. Now, Tebow has a new faith-based book out, "Through My Eyes".

Speaking of the abortion commercial, Tebow acknowledged to O'Reilly that, "I still get asked about it quite a bit, " but stressed that  being the "miracle baby" left him feeling "very blessed to have the opportunity to tell that story."

Pro abortion advocates mounted a strong campaign of their own aimed at preventing the ad from being shown and politically tainted cultural objections to the ad poured in from abortion advocates, with some transcribed from sources across the web, following:

  • Erin Matson, the Action Vice President of the National Organization for Women: "This ad is frankly offensive... It is hate masquerading as love. It sends a message that abortion is always a mistake."
  • Gregg Doyel of CBSsports.com: "If you're a sports fan, and I am, that's the holiest day of the year. It's not a day to discuss abortion. For it, or against it, I don't care what you are. On Super Bowl Sunday, I don't care what I am. Feb. 7 is simply not the day to have that discussion."
  • Alex Jones, director of the Joan Shorenstein School of Press, Politics and Public Policy at Harvard University: "There is no way to be putting in an anti-abortion ad without prompting the pro-abortion side of the debate to get their message across. This may be a new profit center."

No matter the opposition, Tebow's faith never wavers as he continues to look  beyond the sports fame, beyond the money, beyond the material opportunities, beyond the cultural and political war of secularism and Christianity,  affirming, "My number one focus is ... to bring faith, hope and love to those needing a brighter day in their darkest hour of need."
