According to the New York Post on Jan. 31, football great Dan Marino, the Miami Dolphins’ Hall of Fame quarterback, has come clean and admitted to fathering a love child in 2005 just days before he is to appear on the Super Bowl XLVII broadcast.
Dan Marino fathered a daughter, Chloe, with Donna Savattere, a production assistant at BS Sports’ Manhattan studio at the time. They agreed to keep the situation tightly under wraps. Marino has always supported Chloe financially. Chloe and her mom moved to Texas as part of the deal.
“This is a personal and private matter. I take full responsibility both personally and financially for my actions now as I did then,” he told the Post in a written statement. “We mutually agreed to keep our arrangement private to protect all parties involved.”
At the time of the affair and Chloe’s birth, Dan Marino was married and still is. The Marinos have six children. Marino insists that his marriage is still intact and in good shape despite the now public affair.
“My wife and I have been married for almost 30 years and have six children together,” he wrote yesterday — which happened to be his 28th wedding anniversary. "And we continue to be a strong and loving family.”
News of the affair broke yesterday, just days from Super Bowl Sunday where Dan Marino will share the telecast with his “Super Bowl Today” colleagues Boomer Esiason and Shannon Sharpe. There were worries that the local broadcast could get awkward. CBS stands firmly behind Marino.
CBS said in a statement today, "Dan has said all there is to say on this matter, and will be in his usual role on our broadcast Super Bowl Sunday."
Donna Savattere is now Donna Younis, having married Nahill Younis in 2009. They have a child together as well as Chloe, who is now seven and bears Younis’s last name.
