Foodies gathered on Friday, November 7, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Fred B. Harnett Ponce Circle Park in Coral Gables to celebrate the Burgerlicious festival’s third annual event. Live music played by Mad World Orchestra, added a happy note to the mood, as guests feasted on burgers from 22 participating Coral Gables restaurants. The idea originated from the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce because they wanted to bring the spotlight to the local restaurants and their incredible cuisine. The event places Coral Gables as a focal point for foodies. It is immensely successful, attracting more guests every year. Part of the money raised will be to help out small businesses. The general admission ticket was $60 and $125 for VIPs.

Burgers made of the most creative combinations competed to be chosen the best. Among the participating restaurants, Cibo Wine Bar, Christy’s, Sushi Maki, Shake Shack and Schula’s Grill 347 had the longest lines, but every booth had its throng of waiting guests. Sushi Maki included a seared scallop in its slider, and Christy’s added bacon to theirs. Shake Shack’s burger was the biggest in size and very juicy. Many commented on it being tasty, but bacon lovers raved over Christy’s entry, while others vouched that Sushi Maki’s bid was the best. Everyone was enjoying a good time with the great food and music. Guests were offered drinks to go with their burgers. A Johnny Walker statue stood in front of the bar. Bella Cesard and Monika Nicole Higueras walked around carrying the famous label.
Judges were Coral Gables Mayor Jim Cason, Jamie DeRosa, the Chef/Owner of Tongue & Cheek, Johnny Carrascal, blogger of South Florida Overload, Giovanny Gutierrez, Executive Producer of Chat Chow TV, and Nick Pena, Radio Personality of Y100.
