Food, wine, music and more in the Palmetto State

Food critics around the world have opinions about what cities reign supreme when it comes to culinary creations. However, at least for one weekend, that city might be closer to Knoxville than you think.

From September 20th through the 23rd Greenville, South Carolina sets the table with Euphoria, a mix of food, wine and music. It is an event sure to turn a few eyebrows and have more than a few folks raising their glass to toast this city on the cutting edge of the culinary scene.

Euphoria is centered in the heart of this urban area of about 1-million people. Scattered throughout the downtown you will find more than 100 restaurants offering nearly every cuisine you can think of and maybe some you haven’t. Euphoria showcases dozens of these restaurants and the talents of several guest chefs.

On Friday night hundreds of people gather along the river near the shell of an old textile mill to sample the “tastes of the South.” Here, just across the river from where “The Lazy Goat” looks down on the city, you will find chefs like Victoria Moore who is more than happy to tell you what makes her restaurant and the Greenville dining scene so special.

Saturday’s focus is on wine, beer and spirits as vendors from across the country gather under one tent. While the beverages flow so do the sounds of musicians on stage and the creations of chefs competing or demonstrating techniques on stage.

When the sun sets it is time for guest chefs to bring their talents to Greenville. Wine, beer and spirits dinners set the stage to quench the thirst for culinary curiosity.

Sunday’s big draw remains the Jazz Brunch. Here you can fill your plates with dishes from 20 local restaurants. There’s even a Sunday Dinner to wrap up your festival experience.

Euphoria is the brainchild of local restaurateur Carl Sobocinski and local singer songwriter, Edwin McCain (“I’ll be” & “I couldn’t ask for anything more”). The event benefits a number of charities while giving first-time visitors to the city a sense of what they’ve been missing.

At nearly every event the main ingredients of food, beverage and music come together to create one unforgettable feeling. That’s likely why it is called Euphoria.
