Keeping in the spirit of the month-long market that's parked in the middle of Chicago, today's food truck Friday installation travels to the 2013 Christkindlmarket for brats, sauerkraut, and pretzels.
There are about two dozen food vendors that offer bratwurst, sauerkraut, schnitzel, kebabs.... you name it, they got it. You can't go wrong at any booth. Pro-tip: if you're bringing food to eat somewhere else, ask for a to-go styrofoam box.
The pretzels aren't quite the same as a traditional DC street pretzel, but they're in a different league altogether. Choose small ($3.50) or large ($7) from booths on the Dearborne side of the market, or flavored ones from a booth in the middle.
As for bratwurst, two sausages and a bun can be purchased for $5.50, with a sauerkraut topping for a dollar extra.
Once you've gotten your main course, don't forget that cup of hot chocolate or spiced wine in the signature 2013 mug, which adds $5 to any drink order, but can be refilled for a discount.
Finally, you have to make a stop at the candy house, located on the west side of the plaza - you don't understand, you HAVE to. Filled with delicious European candies, including jars of Trobolones, this booth is the real life candy shop from the beginning of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Be prepared to wait in a line that wraps around the booth, but at least it's inside.
