Melbourne, Florida – February 22, 2013 - On Friday night, the Food Truck Bazaar (FTB) made a schedule stop in Melbourne, Florida at Wickham Park. The event started at 5:00 pm and lasted until 9:00 pm. This wandering band of foodies travel throughout central Florida making stops in cities like, Deland, Debary, Titusville, Orlando and Mt. Dora. This culinary event makes a regular stop in Melbourne about every two months. The FTB has a web page and a Facebook Fan page.
My wife, Kathi and I arrived at about 5:30 pm. By this time the lines were very long so we split up and walked the part of Wickham Park to scope out what trucks made the trip and to see what food we were interested in eating. As I meandered between the long likes, it was apparent that Melissa’s Chicken and Waffles was the most popular food truck with the line stretching out to the parking lot. All the time we were there the line never seemed to shrink. Here is a list of the food trucks that were at the Bazaar: BemBom, The Crepe Company, Beard Papa's, The Flattery, Curbside Chef, Melissa’s Chicken and Waffles, Veggie Lover, Mr. Feds, Sunset Ice and Caro Bam BBQ.
Because of the lengths of the lines, I was able to sample food from the Veggie Lovers Ashville’s truck. IO had two veggie spring rolls composed of thinly slices carrots, cucumber, carrots, radish, green onion, and sprouts all covered in Thai Green Sauce and wrapped in rice paper. This was a very crunchy snack and the Thai Green Sauce was very good. After walking the venue I caught up with my wife who had been standing in line the whole time at the Curbside Chef truck. She ordered the Curbside Taco Chicken for me and the Falafel Salad with Nan Bread for herself. My dish can with two tacos and her salad with three falafel balls, just enough for a hearty snack but not enough for a full meal. Because the food trucks were parked close to the big Wickham Park covered pavilion with picnic tables, we took our food there to enjoy what we had purchased. Both the tacos and the falafel salad were very good. After enjoying our snacks we discussed if it was worthwhile to stand in the long line for another round. We decided that we were done and headed back to our car for the short ride home.
So if there is a food truck event in you neighborhoods check it out. You night discover some interesting food to expand you palette.
Until next time, be safe in the sun and have a wonderful day in the great outdoors.
