There are many families out there that are struggling with difficulty to make ends meet. With many mouths to feed it is a privilege to have a program available to help Americans out who are in need. The food stamp program known as SNAP or The Nutritional Assistance Program was designed to provide assistance to those families that can’t afford all the nutritional and wholesome foods needed to feed their families.
Now it seems more and more people are abusing the program than ever before. According to a report just released by Natural News on October 26 the amount of Americans enrolled in the program has gone from 17 million to more than 48 million.
Those numbers are quite astonishing. But what is worse is that many of those accepting these benefits no longer are eligible for them or they are taking the food stamps and selling them for a profit since they aren’t paying for them when they are received. Craigslist right now is one of the places where food stamps are being rolled over for cash. This is just so wrong. Anyone who searches on this site for products and sees a listing for food stamps should report it and not partake in the sale.
One solution that might just deter those who receive food stamps would be if they were issued with the individuals name and address on them. Then when they go to the grocery store to purchase food items a photo ID would also need to be produced to prove that those food stamps can be used for the purchase of food does in fact belong to the one standing before the cashier. This would definitely put an end to the sale of food stamps or the exchange of them to others for cash since they will be useless unless used by the person they were issued to.
Another solution would be for the government to take a better look at the program and monitor the social security numbers of those individuals that are receiving food stamps. If their number registers they are being employed than they should be immediately removed from the program and open a slot for those people who really need the assistance.
If you look at the wording at the bottom of the food stamps it clearly states it is…Not Transferrable!
What are your thoughts on the subject? Do you think people should be more responsible and not take advantage of the food stamp program?
