When the Electronic Benefits Transfer system (EBT debit card) went down in several states Saturday due to a computer glitch, not only did people get angry and threaten to riot, as reported by the GateWay Pundit, but at two Louisiana Wal-Mart’s, it was much worse.
The Blaze reported on Monday that the shelves at two Walmart stores in Louisiana were cleared in a hurry due to the glitch in which the EBT cards were allowing food stamp recipients to spend without limits.
Although the cashiers allowed the customers to ring up their limitless purchases for a couple of hours, the glitch in the system eventually was corrected; the customers left in droves and left their over-flowing carts of food behind.
Conservative Glen Beck on his morning show on Monday had this to say.
“Nobody was talking about the glitch that happened in Louisiana… It’s one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen. Nobody wants to talk about it because it’s theft. And we know exactly who took it because they had to use their food stamp card,” Glenn said. “But here was the glitch. There was no limit. So, what did people do… They emptied the entire store… It was free food. It was free everything. Come and get it. Take your cars. Pack them up. Bring your friends… People had cart after cart after cart. When people came with actual cash, there was no food left. There was nothing left in the Wal-Mart. Animals... theft. And I can guarantee you no one will prosecute them because they are not the forgotten men.”
KSLA-TV reported on the shopping frenzy and said that during the outage, one woman was detained when the system came back up because she had $700 worth of food but her EBT card only had a balance of $0.49.
A customer, who came in after the commotion in one of the two Wal-Marts recorded the mess the EBT shoppers left behind.
In the video, it shows dozens and dozens of carts loaded with food and other products, leaving the incredible mess behind for Wal-Mart employees to clean up and restock the shelves.
But Beck had more to say about these incidents.
“I know you have been kept down, but what have you done about it? What have you done to better yourself,” Glenn asked. “What are you doing with your life? For all those whites, blacks, Hispanics, purple, white, I don’t care what color they are. For all those people, if there were any that went with their food stamp card and said, ‘No, this is all I’m supposed to get.’ And they just bought what they were supposed to buy.”
“As a citizen, thank you. If they did exist. I doubt they did. But one would like to still hope that we have not all turned into thieves and animals.”
