For example, chili peppers contain capsaicin which is an antioxidant that is an all natural decongestant. It also might help with body aches as capsaicin has been used in over the counter creams for arthritis. Drinking orange juice or any juice will help boost vitamin C which helps the immune system. There are also foods that are high in vitamin C, protein, vitamin B6 and B12, and zinc. Eating some meats not only provide the protein but also vitamin B6. For example, vitamin B6 can be found in both turkey, beans and spinach. These help to maintain a healthy immune system. Other meats, milk and fish contain vitamin B12 which is known to be a very powerful immune system booster. Zinc can not only be found in meat, turkey, beans but also in nuts. Drinking orange juice is a good way of getting vitamin C. Apple juice can help sooth an irritated throat and especially if it's really cold. Cranberry juice can help prevent other infections from setting in while fighting the flu. Overall the key to fighting the flu is to eat healthy, drink plenty of fluid and most importantly get plenty of rest.
