The United States Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service is reporting that 38,000 pounds of pork sausage is being recalled. Virginia based Smithfield Packing Company is the producer of the recalled sausage, Gwaltney Mild Pork Sausage Roll. The sausage is being recalled after it was determined that it may contain small pieces of plastic, probably from worker's gloves.
The sausage was produced on Jan.11, and was distributed to 12 states; Alabama, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Texas.
The problem was identified and the recall prompted by consumer complaints, not the regular inspection process. To date, there have been no injuries reported.
There are no UPC codes or other identifying packaging marks to report at this time. Consumers in possession of this product should not eat it, but return it to it's place of purchase for a refund.
