The top of the pyramid is the smallest group that people should eat the least of since that is the unhealthiest group. “Fats, Oils and Sweets Group” make up the top group and they should be consumed sparingly.
There are two groups at the second level of the food pyramid. Those are the “Milk, Yogurt and Cheese Group” and the “Meat Poultry, Fish, Dry Beans, Eggs and Nuts Group.” People should eat elements of these two groups 2-3 times a day.
The third level of the food pyramid makes up the “Vegetable Group” and the “Fruit Group.” Both of these groups are very healthy. People should eat elements of the vegetable group 3-5 times a day and elements from the fruit group 2-4 times a day.
At the bottom of the food pyramid is the “Bread, Cereal, Rice and Pasta Group.” This is the biggest group and people should eat 6-11 serving of this group every day.
To have a healthy diet people need to eat elements of every group each day but remember that eating too much of anything—even healthy foods like pastas—can be bad for you. Diets need to be balanced in order to work right and the food pyramid helps to balance that diet.
